GO BACK TO YOUR FIRST LOVE
I saw a video of a church service that troubled me recently.
In the video, a lady was brought to the altar with a live snake in her hand. I actually don't know what led to her been called out neither do I know the reason why she brought the snake to the church: was it to 'try' the man of God, was she seeking for deliverance from a family worship of python?
As I said earlier, I didn't watch the recording from the beginning but I saw her been chased away from the church.
I was troubled at this point and I asked myself what I would I have done if found in the shoes of the pastor? I thought deeper: what would Jesus have done if He was the pastor of the church?
Sometimes, in the 80s I went to buy foodstuff at the new Bodija market, Ibadan and I saw a lady of about 20 years old, carrying a live snake on her neck begging for alms. Surprisingly, people were giving her alms. I asked for the reason why she was carrying live snake and was told that it was her family idol to be worshiped.
Fast forward to the experience on the video: did the lady come to the church to be delivered from the worship of serpentine spirit? Was she tired of persistent failed marriage proposals? (not sure anyone of us will want our children to marry from such a family). Was she tired of embarrassment of snake popping out of her bag whenever she wanted to bring out change for her customers?
Even if she came to 'try' the power of God, did Apostle Paul not throw a live snake into fire in Acts of Apostles 28:1-8?
Did Jesus not tell us that we shall 'trample' upon serpents, either physical or spiritual?
I watched this lady leaving a place of refuge in shame and 'believers' shouting Holy Ghost fire!!! This was a soul Jesus died for.
Or was she a child of perdition that can never ever be saved?
Was she driven out to die in her problems? Who will deliver her from this her problems; will babaláwo play our role in the lives of the unbelievers?
My submission: Christians should get to the point of asking ourselves what will Jesus do in this situation?
We can't make meaningful impact in our environment if we don't grow to this level.
May the good Lord help us all in Jesus name.
