TOPIC: DADDY & MUMMY, TAKE CARE OF YOUR CHILDREN (IV)
(KING DAVID & HIS CHILDREN)

Read: 2 Samuel 13, 15, Proverbs 22: 6, 22:15, 23: 24, 29: 15

Calvary greetings to you in Jesus name.

This exhortation shall be a brief x-ray of the lives of King David and some of his children’s.
Please note that this exhortation is not to ridicule the man after God’s heart but to guide us against his pitfalls.

One striking issue about King David and his children is indulgence. Can his action or inaction be as a result of his childhood experience which some scholars attribute to a life of neglect by his father? (This cannot be established biblically anyway). Examples of the indulgence are: (i) falling for the pretence of Amnon who raped Tamar his sister (2 Sam 13), (ii) insensitivity of the king to Absalom’s calculated ambition to unseat him through a palace coup (2 Sam 15: 6). This eventually drove the king out of the palace and throne for a number of years (2 Sam 15:14). A king becoming a destitute, a fugitive because of his own son?

I see David in the lives of some parents today who pamper their children to a fault because of their childhood experiences. The child can choose the car that takes him to school, cloths to wear irrespective of the weather conditions etc.
I read of a father in Abuja (a lawmaker) who stormed his son’s school in the company of about five mobile policemen, picked up the head teacher, beat him blue-black and took him away in the trunk of his car all because his child was disciplined. ABOVE THE LAW FATHER.

You need to see the lunch packs of some children going to school these days. Most times, these packs are bigger than their school bags. In the packs you will find fast foods for breakfast, snacks for lunch and of course sweetened water to wash down the lunch. Is there any surprise that so many underage children suffer from chronic diabetes, obesity, cancer, eye problems and some other avoidable sicknesses and diseases?

Parents, please note that God cannot give us children who will become our lords and masters. God cannot give us ungovernable children.

Peace!
