TOPIC: BE DETERMINED TO BE REFORMED IN 2014
(SUBMIT YOURSELF TO THE GREAT REFORMER)
Read: Gen 27, 28, 32, 35, 36 2
Cor 5: 17
Calvary greetings in Jesus name.
While studying the story of Esau and Jacob, I was
amazed at the latter part of Esau’s life.
This was a rugged man who had an unbridled desire to
kill his brother; showed deep resentment towards Jacob’s misbehaviour, erratic
in nature, careless when it came to important issues of life, was a
professional heart breaker who deliberately married women to break the hearts
of his father and mother (Gen 26: 34-35, 28: 8). This man was far from being
cultured. He was the Tarzan of his time, who preferred to live in the bush rather
than among men. I wondered if this was what influenced his pitiable situation.
The story of Esau is so commonly attached to his
selling his bright right, the portion of his life which appears to be most
popular. But I wish to share some end-product of Esau when (I believe) God was
through with him.
Gen 32: 6: Jacob believed Esau was to vent on him a
hot revenge, but he was disappointed. Esau was a refined man who came to honour
his brother.
Indeed, blood is thicker than water!
Gen 33: 3-4: Jacob sighting brother’s intimidating
entourage of 400 men from afar, bowed down seven times for whatever reasons,
but Esau displayed a commendable sense of maturity and forgiveness. He had put
behind him supplanting brother.
Gen 33: 8-9: Esau was absolutely contented with the
magnitude of blessings God had given him.
Gen 33: 12: Esau was eager to host his brother.
Gen 35: 29: This was an irresponsible rascal
(vagabond) who caused his parents to regret, now appearing to give his father a
befitting burial. This portion of Esau’s life drew tears from my eyes.
Gen 36: 6 – 7: Esau still displayed a rare attribute
of a mature ‘senior brother’. He willingly left the arena for his younger
brother, who twice injured his emotions.
What wrong has anyone, especially a fellow Christian
done to hurt you? How heavy was the evil? Can it be as terrible as what
happened to Esau by his blood brother? In what way were you defrauded that you
cannot forgive?
Do you know that the blood of Jesus that speaks mercy
is thicker than family blood?
Brethren, I wish to plead that you submit yourself to
God for Him to transform your life more than what He did in the life of Esau.
Are you ready for the second coming of the Lord Jesus
Christ?
Peace!
