TOPIC:
BE DETERMINED TO BE AN AGENT OF CHANGE IN 2014
(THE
CHURCH & NIGERIA NEED YOUR RADICALISM – PART 2)
Read: Nehemiah 5: 1-19,
Proverbs 29: 2, I John 2: 15 – 17.
Calvary greetings in Jesus name.
Brethren,
this nation Nigeria needs you at this time! Yes, you and exactly you!
There
is a need for someone like you, a civil servant, senator, local government
chairman, farmer, pastor, consultant etc. who will set a pace, who will not
compromise his stance; a humane fellow who will in the face of stiff
oppositions be determined to steer the ship of this nation to her divine
destiny.
The
present situation in this nation, Nigeria is not what some nations had not
experienced in ages past. In the days of Nehemiah (translated Lord’s comfort),
the Israelites were so cruel to one another. The rich enslaved the poor; they
made the poor much poorer, wretched and miserable.
The
rich made the poor sign away their lands in exchange for taxes, money and food
and where the poor reneged on repayment plans, so many abominable acts were
perpetrated, maybe acts worse than what we are experiencing in Nigeria of
today, but one man, Nehemiah stood out to make a change.
1.
- This man wept when he visited Jerusalem. He was troubled and became involved in the re-building of the wall - (2:11‐6:19);
- used his exalted position to work for God and His people. This was a man born into captivity and never saw how formidable the walls of Jerusalem was, but was sad when he saw the ruins;
- He was so determined to re-build the city even in the face of sardonic oppositions from people like Sanballat and Tobiah;
- He was a humane Governor in Judah who shunned the beckoning office comfort and spoils – Chapter 5.
Literally, in our
Nigeria of today, Nehemiah’s concern and thought would have been the following;
why should I live in Maitama, Wuse, etc. when my people live in slums; why
should I use security convoy of several cars with too high a cost when,
millions of our children are out of schools; why should my convoy intimate and
kill citizens of this nation, especially the down-trodden; why should I travel
abroad for check-ups on the slightest sign of headache, when pregnant mothers
die at the point of delivery because our hospitals are of the status of
infirmary in some countries; why should my children school abroad when Nigerian
universities and polytechnics are shut for several months, why should I drink
bottled water when so many Nigerians drink from pools of water cows, camels,
donkeys drink from?’’.
There are so many relevant leadership and
empathic virtues of this man, Nehemiah that can be explored and worthy of
emulation.
Nehemiah’s twelve years of governorship was
blissful.
Conclusion:
Nehemiah 5:
13 Then I shook out the fold of my garment and said, "So may God shake out
each man from his house, and from his property, who does not perform this
promise. Even thus may he be shaken out and emptied." And all the assembly
said, "Amen!" and praised the LORD.
My
prayer:
May the good Lord shake away those who are steering
the ship of this nation towards destruction, tribal annihilation, and
ultimately extinction in Jesus name.
Be prepared for the
second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. He will surely come.
Peace!
